About Hannah Cornell

Hannah Cornell is a first-year student in American University's MFA in Creative Writing Program. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Creative and Professional Writing. Her prose and poetry have been published several times in undergraduate creative journals The Reflector and The Spawning Pool, and her academic research has been published in Shippensburg University's academic journal, Write the Ship. She also served as an editor for several creative journals in her undergraduate years.

At Shippensburg University, Hannah studied under several amazing writers, poets, and scholars including Neil Connelly, Dr. Nicole Santalucia, Dr. Jordan Windholz, Dr. Cristina Rhodes, Dr. Erica Galioto, and more. She was the recipient of the Outstanding English Major Award in the 2023-2024 school year. She also presented at two conferences in 2023: the English Association of Pennsylvania State Universities (EAPSU) Conference and the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) Conference in Chicago.

Currently, Hannah is studying and writing poetry and fiction under the direction of the amazing MFA faculty at American University including David Keplinger, Patricia Park, Dolen Perkins-Valdez, and more. She plans to pursue a career teaching, editing, and publishing her work. She lives in Washington D.C., but often returns to her family’s rural Pennsylvania home.
