A Space in the Trees
Poetry Chapbook
A Space in the Trees is a collection of poetry written throughout my time at Shippensburg University. During my undergraduate experience, I learned much about how poetry can be used to “write back” against various forms of oppression and create space for diverse expression. This chapbook aims to do the same. The poems within it capture my experiences and focus on themes of love, loss, heartbreak, pain, violence, expectation, oppression, and control. Many of these writings also interact with or respond to works created by a diverse range of writers, who offer expressions of identity, experiences with hate, oppression, and/or unfair expectation.
